Take A Look Back At
Arlington ACT-SO 2015

The Pulse of Success

Arlington Branch ACT-SO Olympians displayed their superior talent and at the same time earned more than $16,000 in scholarships at the 37th Annual NAACP ACT-SO National Competition,  July 8 - 12, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Led by Tina Green, our extraordinary ACT-SO Chair, the Arlington ACT-SO Olympians, their mentors and parents comprised the team that represented the Arlington Branch at national competition.

There were more than 600 ACT-SO Olympians that competed in the 2015 national competition.  "With inspired imaginations and unflinching determination, ACT-SO participants have stayed the course to master their disciplines, and share their talents in a manner deserving of the highest accolades", said Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors.

"I am immensely appreciative to Chairwoman Tina Green for her commitment to Arlington ACT-SO", said Alisa Simmons, branch president.  "In 1977, ACT-SO visionary and journalist Vernon Jordan said  'it is urgent that the academic achievements of black youth be praise; the same as we salute athletic achievers', I can tell you unequivocally that Ms, Green's beliefs mirrors those of Mr. Jordan's.

Ms. Green and her team, co-chair Debbie Smith, mentors Jesse Cannon and Taneisha Matthews,  Jason Thomas, branch treasurer, Jonathan Davis, branch communications chair and our vice-president, Duane Braxton are the reason our first ACT-SO program in four years was a huge success.

The Arlington NAACP is also grateful for the support of Arlington Independent School District and superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos.  We are indebted to the DeSoto Independent School District for their generosity and support in assisting the Arlington Branch in getting  DeSoto ISD students to national competition.

Milan, Felecia, Chawntae, Sammoni, Alexis, Mark and the 25 other Arlington participants, We Are Proud of You!
