Arlington NAACP Responds
After Tarrant County Denies Subcourthouse Meeting Request

The Arlington Branch of the NAACP was recently featured in regional news coverage after Tarrant County Commissioners denied the branch’s request to use the Arlington Sub courthouse for monthly public meetings.

According to reporting by KERA News and the Fort Worth Report, the branch requested use of the community room from May to November and asked that related after-hours fees be waived. Commissioners voted April 14 to deny the request after discussion about whether NAACP meetings could be perceived as political.

NAACP Arlington Branch #6298 remains nonpartisan and committed to civic engagement, public education, voter participation, health equity, housing awareness and community dialogue. The branch will continue seeking accessible meeting space where residents can gather, learn and take action.

The NAACP’s mission includes advancing civil rights, eliminating discrimination and keeping the public aware of issues affecting African Americans and other communities of color.

The Arlington Branch of the NAACP issued a statement expressing deep disappointment regarding the continued display of the “One Ranger, One Riot” statue inside Globe Life Field and its connection to events associated with resistance to school desegregation in Mansfield. 

The branch encourages constructive dialogue with the Texas Rangers organization and community stakeholders regarding how public monuments reflect the values of a diverse and growing Arlington community.
